Carmel of Our Lady of Nazareth

      Cabanatuan Carmel

Foundation:

On April 8, 1983, seven (7) foundresses: 2 Spanish nuns, 3 Filipina Solemnly Professed and 2 Temporarily Professed (Juniors), from the community of the Carmelite Monastery of the  Holy Family ( Guiguinto, Bulacan) made this foundation of Carmel of Our Lady of Nazareth as requested by the late Bishop, The Most Rev. Vicente Reyes, D.D., Bishop of Cabanatuan, sometime in 1982.

Carmel of Our Lady of Nazareth was the first foundation of the “Carmelite Monastery of the Holy Family.” The latter was founded by a 400-year old “Monasterio de Santa Ana” (Sevilla, Spain) in September 1967 upon the request of The Most Rev. Manuel del Rosario, D.D., Bishop of Malolos, Bulacan .

Our community, Carmel of Our Lady of Nazareth, was first temporarily “housed” in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija during the first eight (8) months of its foundation. In the same year, we moved to ParumogSt , Cabanatuan City -  as our temporary House only - until our monastery was ready to be inhabited. It was in 1986 when we moved definitely to this House of Prayer while the construction was continually progressing due to many generous benefactors whose heartwarming assistance, our hearts never learned to forget.

In the year 2000, the year of the great Jubilee of the entire Catholic Church, a new foundation was canonically erected in Tanay, Rizal- Carmel of Mary, Star of the Sea. Nine sisters from different communities formed the foundation. Four sisters from Carmel of Our Lady of Nazareth volunteered. They are (1) Rev. Mo. Ma. Delos Angeles, O. Carm. (2) Sr. Ma. De Jesus, O. Carm., (3) Sr. Ma. Esperanza, O. Carm. and Sr. Mary Grace, O. Carm.

November 22,2008, Carmelite Monastery of Jesus of Nazareth(as filial house) was founded in Maramag, Bukidnon, Diocese of Malaybalay.  Four sisters joined the foundation they are: Sr. Maria Cristina Gadrinab, O. Carm.,Sr. Maria Bernardita Blanco, O. Carm., Sr. Maria Violeta de Leon, O. Carm. and Sr. Maria Raquel Ylagan, O. Carm. with one TOC who made her entrance on the same day, Sr. Maria Fidelis de Guzman. After a year Sr. Maria Violeta and after six years Sr. Maria Raquel, they returned in Cabanatuan . At present they were six sisters in the community, 3 Solemnly Professed sisters, 2 Juniors and 1 Postulant.

At present we are 18 in the community, 13 Solemnly Professed sisters, 1 Junior, 1 Novice and 3 Postulants.

Each day we are being inspired, touched and challenged by our Holy Rule, “to live in allegiance to Jesus Christ, following the examples of the Virgin Mother of God, and our Father, the Prophet Elijah, “from whom we inherited passion for the Lord and the desire to interiorize His Word in our hearts. Led by the Spirit of Love, we are here to embrace Jesus ‘mission, Jesus’ love for His flock in this Diocese of Cabanatuan.

To this Diocese adorned by souls who have sincerely searched and followed Him, yet beset by political unrest, crimes, violence and various family problems, challenged by economic progress and poverty, this Foundation was called to be the powerhouse of prayer especially for the increase of Priestly and Religious vocations and for the sanctification of Priests and families.
