The cloistered Nuns of the Carmelite Monastery of the Holy Family belong to the worldwide Order of Carmelites of the Ancient Observance which has no particular Founder. It began its existence as a single group of hermits who were living near the fountain of Elijah on Mt. Carmel in Palestine and has grown into a large family of men and women all over the world. The original Rule was given between 1206 and 1214 and approved on January 30, 1226 by Pope Honorius III.
